What a busy week already!
Well being away Friday at the Chilliwack teachers association executive retreat made things a little "interesting" for my students. Sorry about that guys! Let's get caught up on what assignments are upcoming and what is due.
Drama 9- We are working on the power of communicating through mime
SC. Hum 8- The ancient rome brochures were worked on in class today and are due jeudi.
Spanish 9- Para Empezar (introductory chapter) flashcards need to be made and brought to class next day. Please include the numbers in the list of vocab that needs to be made into flashcards. We also learned to tell time today. We still have to practice that more. Playing Simon dice... was a great way to practice the body parts. Thank you Matt for playing Simon. Don't forget that the geografia test is coming up on the 30th! Locations of countries and their capitals!
Sc. Hum 7- last class we discussed chronology and the students were asked to brinstorm 15 events to place on their personal timeline. We will spend some time in class working on this tomorrow. The coloured good copies are due the 28th.
French 9- We spent last class figuring out the who (qui), what (quoi), when (quand), where (ou) and why (pourquoi) of 5 francophone festivals. The students are writing questions for the end of unit task (making a board game) as we go along. They are keeping them in a folder in my filing cabinet. They are able to ask me to check their questions for mistakes, but i will not make the corrections for them!
Until tomorrow....

FSL 9- We have began the unit "En Route Vers la Francophonie". Each student is bringing a different level of French skill and experience, but each has a positive attitude! We have located which countries in the world are considered francophone and how to talk about them ..."a, au , aux and en". Remember we use a (with an accent grave) before a city name or before a country that does not have an article before it, au before a country that is masculin ( le Canada becomes au Canada), we use en before a country that is feminin and finally we use aux before a country that is considered to be plural (les Pays -Bas becomes aux Pays-Bas)
Welcoming everyone Back!
Welcome Back everyone!
September is such a busy time of year! Getting settled into a routine for the year makes things a little easier. Remember that you should be reviewing everything that we have done in class nightly. This should take only a few minutes. You'll be very happy that you made the choice to do this when it comes time for tests! Instead of having to cram weeks (or months) of information into your head the night before the test you can confidently review your notes and important information knowing what you know.
It has been an exciting first couple of weeks for me getting to know all of you, and trying desperately to learn all of your names! I am enjoying each and every one of you. With each class I have reviewed my expectations and have explained how I will be evaluating the students. I will have the opportunity tonight to go over this with the parents who choose to attend "Meet the Teacher night". If you find yourself unclear about either my expectations or my evaluation of your progress, please discuss this with me. Email is the best way to get in touch with me linda_jones@sd33.bc.ca as i check it daily. VMS is going paperless for memos so to stay in the loop I have to be on top of my email! I am available by appointment ( it does not have to be formal- it acan simply be a "can i talk to you for a minute..) at break, lunch and after school. I am not available in the mornings as my daughter's bus picks her up minutes before our bell rings to signal the beginning of classes.
This week in:
Drama 9- We are getting to know one another and learning how to make the classroom environment condusive to taking risks. The students are working on their audience skills and are exploring emotions through mime and voice.
Sciences Humaines 8- We have looked at an overview of the significant moments in History between 500 AD and 1600 AD. Yesterday we read a fictional story about viking invasion and i assigned activities 1 to 4 on pg. 7. As I will be away Friday, the assignment is due Tuesday. Friday the students will be reading pages 9-12 and will be creating a brochure as per the instructions of the guest teacher in the computer lab. (see activity #1 adding in #2 as well)
Spanish 9- It always amazes me how quickly the students pick up the introductory material. We have learned and are mastering greetings, introductions, and titles. We have discussed the formal and informal forms of address. Yesterday we learned classroom commands. Students need to have index cards for FRIDAY to make flashcards to learn and practice the new vocabulary from pg. 22 and 23. In addition there will be some worksheets to practice and apply their learning.
Sciences Humaines 7- Today students turned in their title pages. We discussed three concepts : 1) faits - facts 2) opinions- opinions 3) theories- theories
The students took notes that explain the different concepts and we did an activity in partners to reinforce the learning. The activity ran longer than expected so there will be time to finish the assignment in class Tuesday.
